I have been working with autistic children and young people for over 13 years.
I continue to work part-time in an NHS team supporting autistic young people, people with intellectual disability, and their families.
I enjoy the fun and creativity that is needed and think that collaboration and adaptation are key to finding the most helpful way forward.
ABOUT ME
It is a pleasure to get to know a young person and their family. We will explore the unique strengths that you bring to find a way forward, as well as the differences and difficulties that you might be experiencing.
How I work
A Neurodivergent Positive Approach
Support will consider the young person’s strengths and their differences within a neuro-affirmative approach.
We will look at what they and others can understand and do differently to improve their quality of life whilst embracing what makes them unique.
An Integrative Approach
This means that I use ideas and strategies from different psychological models, depending on what may be helpful for you. The models I often use include:
CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy),
Systemic (working with families and networks),
ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy),
Trauma informed
A Goal based Approach
We will discuss everyone’s goals to ensure that we are working towards a meaningful change for your child and your family.
Adapted to you/ your child
Therapy can be adapted in many ways to find a way that will work best. Creativity and engaging with your child’s interests are often key to success.
I can work with alternative systems of communication, such as the use of writing, drawing or an AAC app.
If I don’t think I can make the adaptations that are needed, I will be honest and I will try to signpost to someone else who will be able to support.
